EIC
THE ECCLESIASTICAL INQUISITION COUNCIL
AGENDA ITEM
The Age of Enlightenment and the Authority of Church and State
The Enlightenment was a transformative period in Western Europe during the 17th and 18th centuries, influenced by the Renaissance and the French Revolution. It marked a shift from the Church’s oppressive control to individual reasoning, freedom of thought, and rational social order. Thinkers of this era believed that knowledge could be achieved through reason, questioning, and observation rather than blind acceptance. In our second special committee EIC, delegates will personify scientists, artists and philosophers; defending their ideas against the Church authority along with the possibility of being exiled or executed.
